Marc Rose - Welding Instructor

Marc Rose is a full-time welding instructor and the department chair of the welding program at LBCC. Rose is an alumnus of the LB welding program. He lives in Lebanon with his wife, KIm, daughter Emma, 17,  and son Luke, 15. This is his sixth year teaching full-time and he taught part-time for six years prior to that.
Before he started teaching, he worked at a local pulp and paper mill in Albany -- Warehouser which became International Paper.  When they closed he went down to Springfield and started at a mill down there as a pipe-fitter and eventually became a supervisor.

Marc says the most satisfying part of teaching welding is when his students have "that aha moment where everything just clicks and they get it. That's the best."

Every February, competitors from every corner of Oregon and every walk of life come to meet in the ring and battle for the title Oregon Golden Gloves Champion. For some, the road to this moment is long and paved with sacrifice. But still they come; with smiles on their faces and dreams in their hearts, hoping that at the end of the night they will don the blue and gold jacket that will brand them a champion forever. Adapt and Overcome

The Story of an Adaptive Athlete Brandon Wood and his twin-brother, Sean Wood, were born prematurely with a condition known as cerebral palsy, or CP for short. CP is a group of disorders that affect a person's balance, and their ability to move and maintain balance and posture. Despite this condition, Brandon Wood is an athlete and has worked hard to overcome the physical challenges that CP presents on a daily basis.  Brandon Wood coaches the beginners boxing class at Ramos Boxing Club in Albany. Wood began coaching about 10 years ago and coaches beginner, advanced, and pro boxers and MMA fighters. Wood graduated from LBCC in 2004 with a degree in criminal justice and afterwards began working with troubled youth, which is what lead him to boxing. Because of the balance issues caused by Wood's CP, he has never been able to compete in either boxing or MMA, but wrestled for six years in middle and high school and trained in other combative sports.
